In terms of density and quality Estonian road network can be compared to that of the Nordic countries. The infrastructure along the main highways has been improving fast as modern gas stations and better roads have been built. The density of the registered road network is 1,313 km per 1,000 sq km.
The highest density of road usage is on the road aiming down south from the Estonian capital city Tallinn through Latvia and Lithuania to Poland. The second busiest route is eastern one from Tallinn to St. Petersburg via Narva. Despite the relatively high traffic density on some parts of roads, the traffic congestions are not common in Estonian roads. The majority of goods imported to Estonia by road come from Finland, Latvia, Germany and Russia.
